TORONTO (June 24, 2010) -- Today delegates with the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions (ICEM) North America met in Toronto to discuss working conditions for workers in their affiliated unions. The attack on democratic labour unions and massive deregulation has lead to an increase in accidents that cause the loss workers lives. In the mining sector alone there have been at least 7 disasters in 7 months.
This morning CEP and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) co-sponsored the Labour and Civil Society Roundtable on the G20. More than 40 labour and civil society activists joined international leaders to find ways to work together on challenging the global corporate agenda.
CEP National President Dave Coles and CUPW President Denis Lemelin welcomed the participants and kicked off the discussion with an invitation for open dialogue amongst friends.
